This is a work exploring our human experience with time and existence. We primarily live within time in a human scale, but we are also existing within deep time, the sum total of events that have ever existed and will ever exist. We are temporary points within the vastness of time while also being eternal.
A Cantica, sometimes also called a canticle, is a religious song or chant. Whales, as seen in the corner spandrels, are some of the longest living animals on earth, are also known to chant their whale song very softly in unison at points of their rest cycle. The figure here is depicted stepping into an eternal sea surrounded by clocks which have no hands beneath the chanting whales.
