The paintings draw on christian iconography while remaining very firmly works of animism. these are not specific saints, they are representations of humans who are being forced to watch the destruction and desecration occurring around them.
this is the atonement that honors and celebrates the life we see being taken from us. It is the penitence that fuels our commitment to act.
